I never thought I would need to report a solicitor to the UK regulator, the Solicitors Regulation Authority or SRA.
Today I did so, in line with my duty as a member of a regulated profession to speak up if I have reason to believe that a course of action is unethical or illegal.
The public’s trust and confidence in regulated professionals relies on rules being followed, and members of professions (and others, but members of professions have a particular responsibility, because they are more likely to be aware that behaviour may be questionable) have a duty to report questionable behaviour by professionals promptly to the appropriate regulator.
